Establishing supply chains for branded consumer goods in white space markets
Consumer goods companies often find themselves constraining their growth strategy due to the challenges in opening up new markets for geographic expansion or portfolio expansion (‘white space expansion’). Examples may range from expansion in Central Asian or African countries where the business does not yet have a footprint, or gaps in the product portfolio where the footprint already exists. A tremendous growth opportunity is getting missed given that the megatrends of rising incomes, younger population, urbanisation and digital connectivity are propelling disproportionate consumption growth in these markets.. Their indeed are challenges, ranging from governance to infrastructure challenges to regulatory, or indeed even the high costs of establishment and talent acquisition. The supply chain has the unique opportunity here to be the competitive edge of growth through the right strategic choices and optimum design across the four elements of Plan, Source, Make, Deliver.
